AYURVEDA
AYURVEDA
(Indian Tradition of Medication)
Ayurveda is a one of the oldest
sciences of medicines whose origin can be dated back to 3000-5000 years. Ayurveda
or Ayurvedic medicine is a system of traditional Hindu medicine native to the
Indian subcontinent. Contemporary practices derived from ayurvedic traditions
are a type of alternative medicine. Ayurveda is a discipline of the upaveda or
“auxiliary knowledge” in vedic tradition. The origins of Ayurveda are also
found in the Atharvanaveda, which contains 114 hymns and incantations described
as magical cures for disease.
Ayurveda is a method of
holistic healing and is based on prevention rather than cure of the illness. The
approach to healing is done on a personalized basis and people of all the ages
and following different occupations are known to have benefited both personally
and spiritually owing to Ayurveda’s wisdom of healing.
Ayurveda, the science of life
and longevity, is the oldest health care system in the world and combines the
profound thoughts of medicine and philosophy. Since then ayurveda has stood for
the whole some physical, mental and spiritual growth of humanity around the
world.
Ayurveda is based on the premise
that the universe is made up of five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether.
These elements are represented in humans by three Doshas or energies: vata,
pitta and kapha. If toxins in the body are abundant, then a cleansing process
knows as panchakarma is recommended to purge these unwanted toxins. This
fivefold purification therapy is a classical form of treatment in ayurveda.
